March 24, 2005
Stanford, Calif. - Freshman guard Candice Wiggins (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day) was tabbed a Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press this week. The Cardinal rookie leads the squad in scoring (17.3) and steals (2.5) and is third on the team in rebounding (5.3). Wiggins received nine first-place votes from the 45-member media panel and was the only freshman chosen on the three teams.
Wiggins has collected a slew of honors this season, including Pac-10 Player of the Year and Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. She is also on the final voting ballot for the Wooden Award and was a mid-season addition to the Naismith Trophy candidate list.
Stanford will battle UConn in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at approximately 7 p.m. Pacific Time.
