No. 29 California Defeats Oregon, 6-1

Eugene, Ore. - The No. 29 California men's tennis team opened Pac-10 Conference play with a victory over Oregon, 6-1, at the Ducks' Student Tennis Center. With the win, the Golden Bears improve to 7-7 overall, 1-0 Pac-10.
Cal opened the match capturing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The No. 11 duo of Patrick Briaud and Conor Niland defeated Vlad Pino and Arron Spencer on court one, 8-3. Court three saw Lennart Maack and Dean Wallace beating Sven Swinnen and Chris Liao, 8-2.
The Bears went on to sweep five of six singles matches. Junior No. 22 Niland pulled off the upset over No. 19 Swinnen in a dominant manner, winning 6-2, 6-3. No. 56 Maack notched a win on court two, defeating Thomas Bieri after dropping the first set, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Senior captain Briaud won on court three in three sets, defeating Manuel Kost, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6. Sophomore Tyler Browne came out ahead over Pino in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Ken Nakahara tallied a win on court six, where he defeated Chad Wilson in two sets, 6-2, 6-4.
The Bears will face Washington Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. in Seattle, WA.
