Offensive Player of the Week Nominee:
Tuffy Gosewisch, Sr., C, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Senior catcher Tuffy Gosewisch helped the Sun Devils to a Pac-10 series victory over the USC Trojans by hitting .500 (8-for-16) with five runs and six RBI. He also had a double and a triple for a .688 slugging percentage and did not commit an error behind the plate in 13 chances. Gosewisch had a career day in Friday's 17-1 victory over the Trojans by registering career highs with five hits (5-for-6) and tying a career high with four RBI. He also had a clutch single in the top of the 10th inning in Saturday's series clinching 2-1 win to move the eventual game winning run into scoring position. For the season, Gosewisch is second on the team hitting .347 (42-for-121) with six doubles, two triples, five home runs and 33 RBI.

Pitcher of the Week Nominee:
Pat Bresnehan, So., RHP, Sherborn, Mass.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Pat Bresnehan dominated the USC Trojans in a complete-game four-hitter to help lead the Sun Devils to a bounce-back 17-1 victory on Friday. A day after six ASU pitchers combined for nine walks and three hit batters, Bresnehan got ASU back on the winning track and helped save the bullpen with his first career complete game. He did not allow an earned run and scattered four singles to pick up his first victory in seven career starts. He struck out five and walked only two. For the season, Bresnehan is 2-2 and is second on the team with a 3.76 ERA.

ASU is 6-0 when Laguna hits in the leadoff spot this season... sophomore outfielder Colin Curtis started the series on a 5-for-11 tear, but went 0-for-5 in Saturday's 2-1 win to have his career-high-tying nine-game hitting streak come to an end... sophomore second baseman Seth Dhaenens started all three games in the series and had arguably his best performances as a Sun Devil by hitting .400 (4-for-10) with two doubles and three RBI... senior RHP Ty Marotz returned for a shoulder injury to throw 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Thursday's series opener... senior RHP Jason Urquidez made his first start since Feb. 18 (at Tulane) and gave up only one run in eight solid innings on Saturday... Urquidez is 4-2 with a 4.83 ERA in 50.1 innings this season (13 games, 5 starts)... sophomore RHP Zechry Zinicola threw scoreless innings as a starter in Thursday's series opener, but was removed from the game after being hit in the ankle by a line drive... Zinicola came back to close out Saturday's 2-1 for his second save of the season and 10th of his career... the 10 career saves move him into a tie for eighth place in the ASU record books with Eric Doble (1999-2001)... freshman reserve catcher Austin Stockfisch recorded a hit in his fifth straight at-bat and is 5-for-6 (.833) on the season.

ASU is 8-3 when scoring in the first inning this season... the four complete games by Averill (3) and Bresnehan (1) are more than the entire pitching staffs from 2004 (2), 2003 (1), 2001 (1) and 2000 (2).

Quoting Murph [11th year head coach Pat Murphy talks about ASU's Pac-10 opening series win over the USC Trojans]'I am extremely proud of this team for battling back and winning the next two games after losing a tough game on Thursday. We played an extremely tough non-conference schedule in hopes of preparing our team for the playoff-type atmosphere that exists in this conference. You can't take an inning or even one pitch off in this conference because any team can beat you any day. We beat a very good USC team, on the road, after losing the first game of the series and that is a true test of the character of this team. (Pat) Bresnehan came out and gave us an unbelievable performance on Friday to save our bullpen and what can you say about what (Jason) Urquidez did on Saturday. Having not started for over a month, he comes out and gives us eight great innings and then Jeff Larish drives in two big runs for us to win the series.'

HIGHLIGHTS: Behind a complete game from sophomore starting pitcher Pat Bresnehan and a career-high five hits from senior catcher Tuffy Gosewisch, the Arizona State Sun Devils earned their first Pac-10 victory of the season with a 17-1 thumping of the No. 21 University of Southern California Trojans Friday night at Dedeaux Field. Sophomore second baseman Seth Dhaenens recorded two of the Devils' eight hits in the inning and sophomore Colin Curtis hit a two-run home run. Gosewisch also contributed a two-run triple down the right field line. The big inning gave Bresnehan a comfortable lead as he cruised to his first career victory as a starting pitcher. The sophomore right-hander struck out five and allowed only one unearned run and four hits (all singles). Gosewisch led six different Sun Devils who recorded multi-hit games by going 5-for-6 with four runs and four RBI. He fell just a home run short of hitting for the cycle with singles in the first, third and fifth innings, a two-run triple in the fourth and a two-run double in the eighth. Senior first baseman Jeff Larish went 2-for-7 with a two-run home run and Curtis went 3-for-6 with three RBI and hit his first homer of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS: Arizona State first baseman Jeff Larish hit his NCAA leading 12th home run of the season and knocked in the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Sun Devils to a series clinching 2-1 victory over the No. 21 USC Trojans on Saturday afternoon at Dedeaux Field. ASU led 1-0 through seven innings on Larish's solo home run that led off the fourth inning. Senior starting pitcher Jason Urquidez held the Trojans scoreless until All-American catcher Jeff Clement drove a 3-2 fastball onto the parking structure in right field to tie the game. Travis Buck led off the top of the 10th inning with a walk and moved to third base on a single by senior catcher Tuffy Gosewisch. Larish delivered the eventual game-winner lofting a 3-2 pitch from closer Paul Koss to right field to plate Buck with a sacrifice fly. USC attempted a comeback in the bottom of the 10th when center fielder Dale Legaspi led off the frame with a double to the right field gap off reliever Brett Bordes (2-3). After a sacrifice bunt to move Legaspi to third base, sophomore Zechry Zinicola got Blake Sharpe to strike out and, after an intentional walk to Clement, got right fielder Cyle Hankerd to bounce into a game-ending fielder's choice.
