Men's Swimming and Diving Caps 2004-05 Season with Top 20 Finish

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Arizona State University men's swimming and diving team sent two swimmers and one diver into action on the final day of the 2005 NCAA Championships Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn., and saw the national meet come to a close with the Sun Devils recording a Top 20 team finish. Overall, ASU tallied 40 points to tie Purdue for 20th in the final team standings while Auburn captured its third NCAA title in a row. Stanford, Arizona, California and Florida rounded out the Top 5.
In the pool, Leo Martins (So., Garanhuns-PE, Brazil) and David Kolozar (Jr., Budapest, Hungary) each collected 22nd-place finishes in their respective 200-yard events during preliminary round swims Saturday. Kolozar clocked a 1:46.96 in the 200 butterfly event while Martins finished the 200 breaststroke in 1:59.79.
Joona Puhakka (Jr., Helsinki, Finland), who captured the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard diving events on the first and second days, respectively, of the national meet, competed in the 10-meter platform event, finishing 19th overall. The four-time NCAA champion accumulated 410.85 points in the event.
Although the NCAA meet signals the end of the 2004-05 collegiate season, several Sun Devils will compete next weekend as they take part in the World Championship Trials in Indianapolis, Ind. The swimming events will be contested starting March 31 and concluding April 5 while the diving events will be contested April 7-9.
