Field Set For Gymnastics NCAA West Regional in Seattle

Seattle - The teams were announced today for the Gymnastics West Regional to be held in Seattle on Saturday, April 9 at 5 p.m. and several Pac-10 teams are amongst the field. Besides the 24th-ranked Huskies, No. 2 UCLA and Stanford will compete in Bank of America Arena. Also heading to Seattle will be No. 11 Penn State, No. 14 Central Michigan and Boise State.
There are six regions with each region hosting six schools and various individual competitors who qualified for the NCAA Regional competitions. The top two teams from each region qualify for the NCAA Team Championships to be held in Auburn, Ala. on Thursday, April 21.
The Husky squad will be looking for their first NCAA berth since 1998. Senior Carly Dockendorf leads Washington and is the only Husky that qualified for the championships in 2004. Tacia LaBatte also has championship experience, participating in the all-around in 2003.
UCLA will be favored to claim one of the two team spots as they enter the meet as the 2005 Pac-10 Champions and boasting the nation's second-best regional qualifying score (RQS) of 197.090. UCLA is led by Tasha Schwikert and Kristen Maloney, who tied for the all-around title at the Pac-10 Championships and are each past members of the 2000 U.S. Olympic team. The Bruins also boast Kate Richardson, a 2000 and 2004 Canadian Olympic Team member.
