UCLA Gymnastics To Compete At NCAA West Regional In Seattle.

The second-ranked UCLA Gymnastics team will travel to Seattle, Wash. for the NCAA West Regional Gymnastics Championships on Saturday, Apr. 9. Joining the Bruins in the Regional will be 11th-ranked Penn State, 14th-ranked Central Michigan, host Washington, Stanford and Boise State. The meet will take place at the Bank of America Arena at 5:00 pm Pacific Time.
The top two teams, as well as the top two all-around competitors not from an advancing team, at each regional will receive a berth in the NCAA Championships, which will be at Auburn, Ala. On Apr. 21-23. In addition, individual event winners not from a qualifying team or all-arounder will advance. Also competing at the meet will be five at-large individual all-around competitors and four at-large individual event specialists.
UCLA will begin the regional meet on the uneven bars and then will continue on to beam, a bye, floor and then vault before sitting the last rotation out on a bye. Stanford will begin on vault, Washington on a bye before bars, Penn State on beam, Boise State on a bye before floor and Central Michigan on floor.
Last season, the Bruins won the 2004 NCAA Southeast Regional Championship at North Carolina State and went on to win the NCAA Championship in Pauley Pavilion. UCLA has won 15 regional titles, including six in a row.
The six regional fields and sites are as follows:
West Region (Seattle, WA, host Washington) - No. 2 UCLA, No. 11 Penn State, No. 14 Central Michigan, Washington, Stanford, Boise State.
North Central Region (Salt Lake City, UT, host Utah) - No. 1 Utah, No. 12 Oregon State, No. 13 BYU, Minnesota, Southern Utah, Iowa.
South Central Region (Lincoln, NE, host Nebraska) - No. 6 Nebraska, No. 8 Michigan, No. 18 Arizona, Missouri, Arizona State, Illinois.
Central Region (Tuscaloosa, AL, host Alabama) - No. 4 Alabama, No. 9 Iowa State, No. 16 Utah State, Auburn, Kentucky, Kent State.
Northeast Region (Durham, NH, host New Hampshire) - No. 3 LSU, No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 15 Arkansas, New Hampshire, Rutgers, Pittsburgh.
Southeast Region (Gainesville, FL, host Florida) - No. 5 Georgia, No. 7 Florida, No. 17 Denver, North Carolina, West Virginia, North Carolina State.
