March 29, 2005
BERKELEY - After pitching her fourth career no-hitter and striking out 23 without allowing an earned run in three victories at the Carolina Classic (March 25-27), California senior Kelly Anderson was named Pac-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week Tuesday.
In Cal's 5-0 victory against North Carolina March 26, Anderson struck out 11 and was perfect through three and two-thirds innings in tossing her first no-hitter in over two seasons. In the tournament opener on Friday, Anderson struck out eight and allowed two hits in the Bears' 8-0, five inning victory against Harvard. Anderson closed the week with four strikeouts Sunday as Cal defeated North Carolina, 7-2.
The Woodland, Calif., native leads the Bears with a 15-1 record and a 0.80 ERA in 2005. This is the first career Pitcher of the Week award for Anderson.
The No. 3 Bears open Pac-10 play this week with dates at No. 20 Arizona State (April 1) and No. 2 Arizona (April 2-3).
