No. 7 Cal Defends Its Back-to-Back Jessop-Whittier Cup Titles

Bears Head South: This week the Golden Bears head to Mission Bay for the San Diego Crew Classic, April 2-3. Last year, the varsity eight won its second consecutive Jessop-Whittier Cup, beating strong crews from Washington and Tennessee. The Volunteers will be back this year and will provide tough competition for the Bears once again.
The Competition: This year's Jessop-Whittier Field features teams ranked in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing preseason top 25 ranked teams, only Cal and Tennessee is ranked in the Top 10. In Cal's first heat, the Bears will face off against No. 14 USC, No. 18 Washington State, No. 16 Notre Dame, Oregon State and Loyola Marymount.
The rest of the field includes No. 10 Tennessee, No. 13 Stanford, No. 15 Texas, UCLA, and Purdue.

British Columbia Recap (March 20, 2005): The Bears began the 2005 racing season with wins over the University of British Columbia in the varsity eight, third varsity eight and novice eight. Each of the Cal boats won its races by at least 18 seconds, with the novice boat dominating by 31 seconds.
