Seven Stanford Women's Swimmers Begin World Championship Trials Friday

Indianapolis, Ind. - Seven Stanford women's swimmers are scheduled to compete at the World Championship Trials that run Friday, April 1 - Wednesday, April 6, 2005. The six-day event will take place at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Current Stanford swimmers Brooke Bishop, Caroline Bruce, Kristen Caverly, Lauren Costella, Dana Kirk and Desiree Stahley are scheduled to compete. Former Cardinal swimmer Tara Kirk (2001-04) is also scheduled to compete.

Bruce, Caverly and the Kirk sisters were all Olympians in 2004.

Bruce and Tara Kirk are also both NCAA champions. Kirk won nine NCAA titles (seven individual, two relays) during her collegiate career, sweeping the 100 and 200 breast in each of her final three year and taking the 100 in her freshman season to make it four in a row. Bruce kept the Cardinal tradition in the events going by sweeping the 100 and 200 breast at the 2005 NCAA's.
