Candice Wiggins Named Kodak/WBCA All-American
April 2, 2005
Atlanta, Ga. - Freshman guard Candice Wiggins was honored in Indianapolis today when the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Eastman Kodak Company announced the 2005 NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team. A selection committee representing each of the eight WBCA geographical regions selects 10 of the top women's basketball players in the nation to be honored.
Wiggins is the seventh Stanford player to be named Kodak All-American and the first Cardinal freshman to earn the honor. She is the ninth freshman in history to earn this prestigious recognition, which has been given since 1975. Wiggins joins the list of fellow Stanford alumnae: Nicole Powell (three-time), Kristin Folkl, Kate Starbird (two-time), Val Whiting (two-time), Sonja Henning, and Jennifer Azzi (two-time).
'This year's group is filled with fresh new faces. These ten young ladies represent the future of women's basketball,' said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. 'Considering the overwhelming field of talent at this level of the game, the Kodak/WBCA All-America Team Selection Committee has done an excellent job choosing another class of All-Americans.'
The members of the 2005 NCAA Division I Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team are as follows:
Seimone Augustus (Louisiana State University)
