No. 26 Cal Tied for 3rd After Two Rounds of PING/ASU Invite

April 2, 2005

TEMPE, Ariz. - No. 26 California is tied for third at 17-over 593 with No. 5 Pepperdine after two rounds Saturday at the PING/ASU Invitational at Karsten Golf Course. The Golden Bears fired an eight-over 296 in the second round behind junior Sophia Sheridan's and freshman Jen Sanders' rounds of 73.

No. 2 UCLA leads the 17-team tournament with a 36-hole score of 578. No. 7 Arizona State is in second at 582. The Bruins and the Sun Devils each carded scores of one-under 287 to lead all teams Saturday. No. 8 Washington is fifth at 598.

Arizona State freshman Louise Stahle, the No. 1 player in the country, leads the individual competition at six-under 138. Stahle had four birdies today and has played 36 holes of bogey-free golf on her team's home course. UCLA's Susie Matthews, who began the day tied with Stahle, is two off the pace at 140.

Junior Sophia Sheridan continues to lead the Bears, sitting in a four-way tie for sixth at one-over 145. Cal senior Claire Dury is tied for 19th at 148 after posting her second round of 74. Unfortunately, Dury's scores don't count towards Cal's team score because she is competing as an individual.

Cal sophomore Mika Takayama is tied for 42nd at 149 after firing a 74 today. Junior Sofie Andersson is tied for 32nd at 151. Freshman Enu Chung dropped 30 spots to a tie for 51st (155), but the Bears were able to drop her score of 80 today. Sanders stepped up for the Bears with a score of 73 to move into a tie for 51st with Chung.

The third and final round tees off Sunday at 7:30 a.m. MT.
