April 3, 2005
Mission Bay, CA - For the third year in a row the Golden Bears rose to the occasion to win the Jessop-Whittier Cup at the annual San Diego Crew Classic. The Bears were able to jump out ahead of the field in the first 1000 meters, and never allowed a comeback attempt by any boat.
In one of the closer races of the day, the second varsity eight rowed to a five second finish over the second place Washington State Cougars. The Bears held a small lead throughout the race. Cal crossed the finish line five seconds ahead of Washington and third place Stanford.
The novice eight finished first in their grand final. In the novice race the Bears finished ahead of UCLA and Oregon State.
