April 6, 2005

Corvallis, Ore. - Rickey Herod (HAIR-id) officially joined the Oregon State University football program Wednesday, Beaver head coach Mike Riley announced. Herod is on campus and will compete in the remaining spring drills.

The 5-10, 180-pound cornerback from Bakersfield College rushed for 672 yards and six touchdowns last season while playing running back. He missed four regular season games with an ankle injury. Herod attended Ranger Community College in Texas in 2003, but did not play football.

Herod is a native of Sacramento and attended Natomas High School, where he was a teammate of current Beaver defensive end Joe Rudulph and defensive back Lamar Herron. As a senior in 2002, Herod rushed for 1,855 yards and 19 touchdowns in leading the Nighthawks to the Capital Valley Conference title.

Spring practice continues Friday at 3 p.m. at the Truax Indoor Center or the Tommy Prothro Football Complex.
