Top-Ranked Stanford Heads South For Weekend Match-Ups Versus No. 3 USC and No. 11 UCLA
April 6, 2005
Stanford, Calif. - No. 1 Stanford (17-0, 4-0 Pac-10) will travel to Los Angeles this weekend as the Cardinal prepares for a Friday match-up with No. 3 USC and a Saturday date with No. 11 UCLA.
Stanford heads into the weekend with a 46-match winning streak, while the Trojans have only lost once this season --- a 5-2 decision to Stanford on Feb. 26. USC was ranked No. 12 when the two teams met earlier in the season in Palo Alto, but the Cardinal won the doubles point and four singles matches to upend the Women of Troy. USC's Nicole Leimbach is now ranked No. 10 in the nation in singles, while Lindsey Nelson is ranked No. 13.
Stanford and UCLA will meet for the second time this season on Saturday. Earlier this year, the Cardinal posted a 6-1 victory over the Bruins, giving up only the doubles point. UCLA is 12-4 on the season and will face No. 20 California on Friday. The Bruins' Riza Zalameda is ranked No. 23 in singles and Daniela Bercek is ranked No. 25.
Stanford and USC will play at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Marks Stadium, and the Cardinal and Bruins will face off at noon on Saturday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
