No. 8 Softball Shuts Out San Jose State 2-0

Stanford, Calif. - Freshman Tricia Aggabao hit a two RBI triple to help the eighth-ranked Stanford softball team to a 2-0 shutout over San Jose State this evening at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium in a non-conference mid-week game. The Cardinal improve to 26-7 overall while the Spartans drop to 25-17.

Stanford got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Lauren Lappin led off the inning with a walk. With one out on the board, Leah Nelson also drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Tricia Aggabao tripled to right centerfield, scoring Lappin and Nelson.

Junior Laura Severson (12-4) picked up the win in the circle, scattering three hits over four scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Freshman Becky McCullough recorded the save, going three strong innings in relief. Carol Forbes (15-13) took the loss for the Spartans, allowing two runs on six hits over six innings of work.

Lauren Lappin went 1-for-2 with a run scored on the night while Leah Nelson also had a 1-for-2 day as well with a run scored.

Stanford is back in action on Friday, April 8, against UCLA in a conference match up at 7 p.m. at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium.
