First day results (women/men's invitational hammer throw) from the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee T & F Invitational held
Thursday-Saturday (April 7-9) at UCLA's historic Drake Stadium.
On Friday (mostly university/open events), field events begin at 11 a.m. and track events at 1:30 p.m. Also on Friday, there is an evening distance carnival, starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday (all invitational events), field events start at 11:45 a.m. and track events at 12:15 p.m.
UCLA senior Jessica Cosby captured first-place, with a mark of 208-5. Cosby entered the event with a collegiate best, Pac-10 leading and season-best effort of 217-5 (3/26). As a junior last season, Cosby placed second at the NCAA Outdoor, with a Pac-10, school record and personal-best mark of 219-5. Last season she also won the hammer throw at the NCAA West Region and Pac-10 Championships. A multi-talented thrower, Cosby as a redshirt freshman in 2002 won the shot put at the NCAA Outdoor.
Stanford took second and third-places in the hammer throw, with Sarah Hopping finishing second (184-5) and Katie Elsbury in third (183-07).
