Kirtman, Washington, Defense Each Score 2 TDs At Trojan Huddle Scrimmage

Senior fullback David Kirtman caught two touchdown passes, sophomore tailback Chauncey Washington ran for a pair of short TDs and the defense returned two interceptions for scores to highlight the two-time defending national champion USC football team's Trojan Huddle intrasquad scrimmage before 15,000 fans in the Coliseum on Sunday (April 10).
Kirtman caught a 40-yard scoring pass from sophomore quarterback John David Booty and then an 8-yard TD throw from redshirt freshman quarterback Rocky Hinds. Washington's TDs were both 2 yards. Freshman safety Kevin Ellison picked off a Hinds pass and returned it 45 yards for a touchdown and then junior safety Ryan Ting returned Hinds' next throw 18 yards for a score.
Sophomore placekicker Mario Danelo hit both of his field goal tries, from 34 and 38 yards.
Booty was 11-of-15 passing for 155 yards, but had an interception. Hinds was 8-of-18 for 79 yards and McDonald was 6-of-11 for 101 yards.
Washington rushed for 40 yards on 20 carries. Sophomore tailback Desmond Reed rushed for 78 yards on 5 carries, including a 45-yarder, and also had a 60-yard kickoff return. Junior Steve Smith caught 4 passes for 33 yards and soph wide receiver Whitney Lewis had 3 grabs for 59 yards.
Defensively, sophomore linebacker Keith Rivers had 9 tackles and walk-on junior cornerback Jerry Williams had 8 tackles and 3 deflections, while senior linebacker Ryan Powdrell, junior safety Brandon Ting and junior linebacker Oscar Lua each had 7 tackles.
USC concludes spring practice on April 16 and then opens its 2005 season at Hawaii on Sept. 3.
