Men's Tennis Falls to No. 12 Washington, 6-1

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Arizona State University men's tennis team wrapped up their trip the Northwest with a 6-1 loss to No. 12 University of Washington in a dual held at the Bill Quillian Stadium. With the loss the Sun Devils fall to 7-12 on the season and 1-5 in Pac-10 play while the Huskies improve to 17-4 and 5-1 in conference action.

The Huskies came out strong in doubles action, winning two of three matches to claim the first point of the day. Action on Court No. 2 wrapped up first as the Sun Devils tandem of Jonathan Kinsella and Clinton Letcher were downed by the Huskies team of Christoph Palmanshofer and Alex Vlaski, 8-4. The Huskies secured the doubles point on Court No. 1 as the No. 27 duo of Daniel Chu and Alex Slovic topped the ASU team of Andy Colombo and Mike Beatty, 8-4. The Sun Devils duo of Nick Hegarty and Ryan McBride followed with a 9-8 (7-5) win on Court No. 3 over the Huskies' Andy Kuharszky and Mike Ricks.

The Huskies did not back down in singles action, as they took five of six singles matches to top the Sun Devils for their fifth Pac-10 victory keeping them in a tie for the conference lead with UCLA. No. 19 Vlaski took the quick victory over ASU's Andy Colombo, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 1 singles position to give the Huskies to the 2-0 edge. Next off the courts was action at No. 6 singles where Washington's Peter Scharler defeated ASU's Hegarty in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. McBride battled back for the Sun Devils at No. 5 singles, taking the win over Kuharszky, 6-4, 6-4, to put the dual at 3-1.

Washington secured the win at No. 3 singles as No. 57 Palmanshofer took down ASU's Kinsella, 6-1, 7-6(10). The remaining two matches were taken to three sets by ASU, but Washington proved too strong in the end. The Sun Devils Christopher Biro took the first set against Chu at the No. 4 singles position, but Chu battled back to take the point, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0(6). Rounding out the day of competition, action at the No. 2 singles spot saw No. 29 Slovic top Letcher in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

The Arizona State University men's tennis team concludes the regular season Saturday, April 16 with a trip to Tucson to take on the Wildcats. Action begins at 12:00 p.m.
