Rankin Named Pac-10 Male Track Athlete of the Week

April 11, 2005

Senior Jon Rankin was named the Pac-10 Male Track Athlete of the Week (April 4-10) after making history this past weekend at the third annual Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational. Rankin broke the four-minute barrier in the mile, winning in a world-leading time of 3:57.89. He is just the third Bruin ever to break the barrier and the first since Ron Cornell in 1980. His time improved his lifetime-best by nearly eight seconds. This is the first career Pac-10 Athlete of the Week honor for Rankin.

Rankin was also named the UCLA MET-Rx Athlete of the Week for his performance this past weekend.
