UCLA Women's Rowing Enjoys First Day of Windermere Crew Classic

April 9, 2005 -- The nationally ranked Bruins had a strong performance at the Winderemere Collegiate Crew Classic, a Henley style head-to-head competition, held at Redwood Shores, CA. The Varsity Eight captured a win over Clemson, yet fell to the No. 9 Cavillers of Virginia. The second varsity eight also earned a victory over Clemson and fell to Virginia. The novice eight was able to capture victories in both of their events, defeating strong teams from California and Washington.
The varsity eight over came the Clemson Tigers in their fist head-to-head race, coming in nearly three seconds ahead of their competitors. The No. 9 Cavaliers came away from the Bruins in the middle of the race, finishing 5.8 seconds ahead of the Bruins.
The second varsity eight was also able to defeat Clemson in their first race of the day with a 2.6 second margin of victory. Virginia proved to be a strong opponent, defeating the Bruins with over a 15 second margin.
The novice eight were undefeated for the day, finishing above Pac-10 competitors Washington and California. The Bruins easily overcame the Huskies, finishing with a 20.2 second advantage. The Bruins avenged their loss to California at the San Diego Crew Classic grand final last weekend by finishing 4.8 seconds ahead of the Golden Bears.
