Cuic Plans to Return in 2005-06
April 12, 2005
Corvallis - Oregon State men's basketball player Sasa Cuic has announced that he is planning on returning to Oregon State for his sophomore season in 2005-06. A recent newspaper article indicated that Cuic might return home to Europe, and he wanted to make his intentions known.
'After having thought about it and having talked to the coaches, I feel good about my role in the program and I'm going to come back next year,' said Cuic, a 6-foot-10 forward from Rijeka, Croatia. 'It would be a shame to give up next year. A lot of minutes will open up and I want to make a bigger contribution. I'm willing to step up and take a new role on the team. I know what parts of the game I need to improve to be a better Pac-10 player. I'm going to work on that, and come back even better next year.'
Cuic began his freshman year with a bang, earning BCA All-Tournament team honors after averaging 20.7 points in the first three games of the season. He was in double-figures in 11 of the first 13 games and was averaging 14.3 points at the time. However, when David Lucas returned from injury and Nick DeWitz became eligible, as well as having to deal with a series of minor injuries, it cut into Cuic's playing time and scoring output.
Cuic finished the year having played in all 32 games. Overall, he averaged 9.2 points and 3.9 rebounds and was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman honorable mention team.
