Top-Ranked Stanford Tops UCLA, 5-2

Los Angeles, Calif. - Top-ranked Stanford earned a 5-2 win over No.11-ranked UCLA, improving to 19-0 for the season and 6-0 in the Pac-10 andextending the Cardinal's win streak to 48 matches.

Stanford started the afternoon by winning the doubles point, capturing twoof the three matches. The duo of junior Alice Barnes and sophomore TheresaLogar put the Cardinal on the board first with an 8-4 win on court No. 2.The 29th-ranked Amber Liu and Anne Yelsey upset second-ranked Daniela Bercekand Riza Zalameda 9-8(5) at court No. 1 to clinch the point, with the Bruinsposting a 9-7 victory at court No. 3 moments later.

In singles play, Laura Gordon gave UCLA their first point, defeating LejlaHodzic 6-1, 7-5 at court No. 6. At courts No. 4 and 5, freshman WhitneyDeason and sophomore Yelsey both won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0,7-5, to advance the Cardinal to a 3-1 lead. 29th-ranked Barnes clinched thematch for Stanford with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Zalameda at court No. 2.Logar defeated Alex McGoodwin 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot, posting the finalStanford win. Ninth-ranked Liu faced her second upset in two days as 25thranked Bercek defeated her 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 on center court.

Stanford returns home to face Cal Poly on Thursday, April 14 at 1:30 p.m.
