No. 1 Stanford Wraps Up Regular Season in Bay Area
April 13, 2005
Stanford, Calif. - Top-ranked Stanford will host Cal Poly on Thursday afternoon in the regular season home finale at the Taube Tennis Center before heading north to Berkeley for the final regular season dual of the year at No. 21 California. The Cardinal, now 18-0 on the season with a 7-0 mark in Pac-10 play, will host the Mustangs (8-8, 4-2 Big West) on Thursday at 1 p.m. Stanford will then travel across the San Francisco Bay to face the Golden Bears (12-7, 2-4 Pac-10) at noon on Saturday.
Cal Poly has lost its last two duals, falling to No. 32 Sacramento State and No. 71 Pacific. The Mustangs put together a six-match win streak in February, but have lost five of their last-seven matches. California enters its match-up with Stanford on a three-match losing streak, after suffering back-to-back losses at No. 11 UCLA and No. 3 USC last weekend. The Cardinal and the Golden Bears have met once already this season, as Stanford won a 5-2 decision in Palo Alto on March 30.
Stanford's match with Cal Poly was rescheduled from late January and will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Cardinal and the Golden Bears are set to face off at noon as Stanford looks to claim its 18th-straight Pacific-10 title.
