Bears Complete Second Spring Scrimmage

April 16, 2005

BERKELEY - Justin Forsett rushed eight times for 112 yards and a touchdown in his second straight strong outing, as Cal completed its second scrimmage of the spring Saturday in Memorial Stadium.

The defense dominated much of the early action in the 90-minute session, forcing a three-and-out on the first series and allowing just one first down on the next. Cornerback Daymeion Hughes intercepted a pair of passed and recorded a tackle for loss to highlight the effort.

In addition, Ryan Foltz and Phillip Mbakogu each added a sack, and Worrell Williams and Brandon Mebane recorded tackles for loss.

Forsett, who had 111 yards on 13 attempts in last weekend's scrimmage, broke off three runs of at least 22 yards, including a 37-yarder and a 25-yard TD rush.

'It feels good to be back in it,' Forsett said. 'It's been a long time since the season ended. All of us are competing for the No. 1 spot. It's what keeps us going. I learn a lot from all of these guys.'

Fellow tailback Marshawn Lynch finished the day with 35 yards on 5 carries, including a 43-yard scamper. Marcus O'Keith contributed 63 yards on 11 attempts, and Terrell Williams rushed five times for 28 yards.

At quarterback, Nate Longshore was just 1-for-8 for 13 yards, but did have several close misses on long throws and had a 39-yard TD toss to Lynch called back due to a holding penalty. Joe Ayoob finished 5-for-10 for 74 yards, which included a three-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Sam DeSa.

Tom Schneider connected on his only field goal attempt of the scrimmage, a 47-yarder that cleared with plenty of distance to spare.
