USC Women's Rowing Falls To Ohio State Varsity Eight and Sweeps Minnesota

Columbus, Ohio- The No. 12 USC Varsity Eight rowing team fell to fourth-ranked Ohio State, however, swept the Golden Gophers in all three races Saturday at Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio.
Overall, USC finished the day 4-2, after posting victories against the Buckeyes Varsity Four, and Minnesota's Varsity Eight, JV Eight and Varsity Four. Minnesota ended the day 6-8 and Ohio State went 7-1.
The Trojan Varsity Eight boat posted a time of 7:08.1 only six seconds behind Ohio State. (7:01.4.) The JV Eight were also close to the Buckeyes (7:17.1) with a time of 7:22.5. USC's victory over Ohio State's Varsity Four team was the Buckeye's only loss of the day. USC posted a time of 7:57.9 while Ohio State came in with 8:06.4. The times posted were affected by both head winds, and cool temperatures (approximately 50 degrees).
'A lot of credit goes to USC,' Andy Teitelbaum, Ohio State rowing head coach, said. 'They put a lot of pressure on us in all three races. We were lucky to be able to handle it and win.'
The afternoon races against the No. 19 Golden Gophers resulted in a sweep of all three races for the No. 12 Trojans. USC's Varsity Eight team clocked a time of 6:56.2 the fastest time of the day against Minnesota with a time of 7:01.0. The Women of Troy rallied past Minnesota in the Varsity Four (8:07.2) and JV Eight (7:17.1) to the Golden Gopher's times of 8:21.5 and 7:26.7, respectively.
The Trojans are taking next week off to prepare for first-ranked Princeton at Princeton, N.J., Lake Carnegie on Saturday, April 30.
