Cardinal Men Tied For Seventh At U.S. Intercollegiate Presented By The Maple Fund

Stanford, Calif. - The Stanford men's golf team shot rounds of 294 and 291 on the first day of competition at the U.S. Intercollegiate held at the par 70, 6,742 yard Stanford Golf Course. Their two-round total of 585 ties them for seventh heading into the final round. USC leads the field after firing rounds of 278 and 284 (562). Fresno State is second (572) ten strokes back, followed by UCLA (575), San Diego State (579, Oregon (584) and San Jose State (584).

Rounding out the top 10 teams were Stanford (585), Arizona (585), Long Beach State (585) and Arizona State (585).

Cardinal freshman Rob Grube is tied for seventh individually after carding rounds of 71 and 70 (141). Senior Kevin Blue is tied for 23rd (74-71) with a 145. Sophomore Zack Miller is tied for 51st heading into the final round after shooting a 150 (73-77). Teammate Scott MacDonald is tied for 58th (77-74--151) while Matthew Shin is tied for 63rd (76-76--152).

Stanford also had four golfers compete as individuals today. Senior Pat Phillips is tied for seventh on the individual leaderboard with a 141 (72-69) while teammate Matthew Savage is tied for 30th (76-71--147). Freshman Teddy Collins is tied for 63rd (76-76--152) and Kyle Gentry is tied for 70th (78-75--153).

USC's Bradley Shaw is the overall individual leader after firing rounds 69 and 67 to have a two-round total of 136. SDSU's Aaron Choi is second, only a stroke back, with a 137. UCLA's Daniel Im and Oregon's Matt Ma are tied for third (138) while SJSU's David Kim is fifth (139).

The final round will be played tomorrow at the Stanford golf course with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m.
