April 18, 2005
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Washington State University sprinter James McSwain was honored as the Men's Track Athlete of the Week (April 11-17) for the Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field.
McSwain won the Mt. SAC Relays men's University/Open 100m dash Sunday with the second-fastest time in the world this year, 10.19 seconds. His time is the top time in the US to date and behind only Australia's Joshua Ross' world-leading time of 10.12 seconds. It is also the second-fastest non-wind-aided time in Cougar men's history, behind Anson Henry's 2002 time of 10.17 (also run at the Mt. SAC Relays) and tied with Augustin Olobia's 1991 time of 10.19 run in Eugene. The junior from Las Vegas, Nev., also ran a 200m NCAA RQ time of 20.85, and ran the second leg of the 4x100m relay season-best time of 40.24.
WSU heptathlete Diana Pickler was tabbed the Pac-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Week last week.
