This Week In Pac-10 Outdoor Track And Field

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of April 11-17:
Men's Track Athlete of the Week: JAMES McSWAIN, Washington State (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.). McSwain ran the fastest American time and second-fastest legal time in the world this season with a clocking of 10.19 seconds to win the 100 meters at the Mt SAC Relays. His time is also the second-fastest non-wind-aided time in WSU men's history behind Anson Henry's 2002 time of 10.17 (also run at the Mt. SAC Relays) and tied with Augustin Olobia's 1991 time of 10.19. McSwain also came back later in the day to run a PR and NCAA RQ 200 meter time of 20.85 to place fourth, then ran the second leg of the WSU 4x100 meter-relay team's season-best time of 40.24.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: MICHAEL ROBERTSON, Stanford (Jr., Beebe, Ark.). Robertson twice set the Stanford school record in the discus last week. At the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 15, he set the school mark with a throw of 199-10 (60.19m) which beat the old mark of 198-7 (60.53) by Omer Inan in 2002. Two days later on April 17, he bettered his own school record with a throw of 202-5 (61.70m).
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: SARA BEI, Stanford (Sr., Santa Rosa, Calif.). At the Mt. SAC Relays, Bei ran the fastest collegiate time of the season at 5,000 meters with a NCAA RQ clocking of 15:41.57.
Women's Field Athlete of the Week: ILONA RUTJES, Arizona (Sr., Roden, Netherlands). Rutjes won the discus at the Long Beach Invitational with a throw of 185-2 (56.43m), which at the time was the second-best mark in the nation this season.
