Top-Ranked Stanford Heads to Pac-10 Championships in Ojai

No. 1 Stanford, one of nine women's Pac-10 teams, will head to Ojai, Calif., Thursday for the four-day tournament to decide the league's singles and doubles champions.
The 32-player singles draw will consist of three players from each of the nine schools, with five additional competitors selected by a committee of coaches. Stanford will be represented by No. 22 Alice Barnes, No. 46 Whitney Deason, No. 49 Theresa Logar and Anne Yelsey. The 16-team doubles draw will have one doubles team from each school and seven additional teams selected by the committee. Deason will pair with Logar and Barnes with Yelsey to represent the Cardinal.
In singles, Yelsey will take on California's Stephanie Kusano in the Round of 32, Barnes will meet Arizona State's Kady Pooler, Logar will challenge Oregon's Dominka Dieskova, and Deason will take on Arizona's Maja Mlakar. It will be the first meeting for all four pairs, although the Cardinal has a combined record of 9-0 against their four first-round opponents. On Thursday, Yelsey and Barnes will begin play at 8 a.m., while Logar will start at 9:30 a.m. and Deason will play at 12:30 p.m.
In doubles, Barnes and Yelsey will take on Washington State's Chris Martinez and Orsolya Sallai at 9 a.m., while Deason and Logar are scheduled to play Dieskova and Daria Panova (Oregon) at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
Stanford will also have three entrants in the Pac-10 Invitational Draw, with Joanna Kao, Kara Guzman and Jessica Leck all competing in singles for the Cardinal. Guzman and Kao will also team up in doubles.
Singles action begins on Thursday at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club, while doubles play begins on Friday. All semifinal and final matches on Sat., April 23, and Sun., April 24, will be played at Libbey Park.
