Stanford Crew Returns Home After Mixed Results
April 23, 2005
The Stanford Women's Crew team returns from their southern road trip withmixed results. A last minute line up change in the Lolola Varsity Fourshuffled the racing order so that the Varsity Eight's kicked things off.Despite a further 20 minute delay on the water, Stanford came off the lineready to race. With emphasis on the middle thousand, both Stanford crewsdemonstrated improved racing skills as they moved through the LoyolaMarymount crew to finish first and second in their race.
The Varsity Eight lead from start to finish, opening their lead by the 500m and expanding uponit through the finish.
The JV Eight found themselves down to LMU by acouple of seats in the start. By the 500m mark they had pulled even andengaged in a great battle to gain a few seats through the 1500m point. With 300m to go, the LMU Varsity made a great attempt to challenge the JVboat's lead; however, they fell short by a little more than a seat and gaveboth Stanford boats a victory.
In the Varsity Four event, UCLA shot off the line and never looked back.Stanford and LMU battled though the 500m point with Stanford's Four neverquite able to respond to the Lion's moves. The Stanford Four show a sparkat the 1250m mark and worked hard to make up ground but it was a little toolate to catch the Bruins or the Lions.
