WALNUT CREEK, Calif.- WASHINGTON freshman outfielder Lauren Greer has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week, and OREGON STATE sophomore Brianne McGowan has been named Pitcher of the Week for April 19-25, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Greer, from Placentia, Calif., led the Huskies to a 3-1 record last week, including an upset win over No. 10 UCLA on April 23 and a pair of wins over Nevada on April 24. She hit the game-winning home run against UCLA on April 23 with a two-run shot to left field. Greer followed up that performance with a 4-for-6 showing against Nevada in a doubleheader. Greer went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk and three runs in the opener. She also went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run against Nevada in game two. On the week, Greer led all players with a .667 average, going 8-for-12 from the plate with five runs scored, four RBI, one double and two home runs.

McGowan, from Reno, Nev., held a perfect 4-0 record over the week and did not allow an earned run (0.00 ERA) in 22.2 innings of work. She tallied 25 strikeouts in five appearances, threw three complete games and recorded two shutouts. She raised her overall record to 29-4 on the season, breaking the Oregon State single season record for victories. McGowan tossed a one-hit shutout and tallied seven strikeouts in a 5-inning complete game victory over Saint Mary's College on April 20. She set a new career-high in strikeouts with 11 K's in a complete game shutout victory against No. 25 ranked Oregon on April 24. Her 236 strikeouts on the season rank third on the OSU single season chart. McGowan has 11 victories on the season against teams ranked in the Top 25 and all four of her losses have come against teams ranked in the Top 18. The Beavers have won 29 of their last 31 games and are off to their best start ever in Pac-10 action with a 10-2 record. Oregon State has posted its seventh consecutive 30-win season.

This is the first weekly honor for Greer and the fourth for McGowan. The awards are the 54th and 27th all-time honors for the Huskies and the Beavers, respectively.
