The Bruins have a very busy week on their schedule with five games scheduled this week. The Bruins then return to Westwood and will play four games this weekend against the Bay Area schools. UCLA, Washington Split Weekend Set
A grand slam home run by Jodie Legaspi propelled the Bruins to a 4-3 victory over Washington on Friday afternoon at Easton Stadium, giving UCLA its fifth straight conference victory. Freshman pitcher Anjelica Selden posted her 16th double-figure strikeout game of the season, posting 10 K's while earning her 16th victory of the season.
The Bruins weren't as lucky on Saturday afternoon. Bruin starting pitcher Lisa Dodd had a solid outing in the circle, but gave up a two-run home run in the second inning which turned out to be enough offense for the Huskies to capture the 2-1 win. A solo home run from Kristen Dedmon in the fifth inning cut Washington's lead in half, and Dedmon nearly tied the game to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning as her double bounced off of the yellow piping atop the outfield wall and bounced back in for a ground-rule double. The Bruins were unable to advance pinch-runner Jaisa Creps, and the game ended with Washington taking a split for the weekend series.
The teams will complete their three-game regular season series on Wednesday in Seattle.
