No. 5 Cardinal Blank St. Mary's 7-0

Stanford, Calif. - Tricia Aggabao went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the fifth-ranked Stanford softball team to a 7-0 shutout over St. Mary's this evening at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 35-9 overall while the Gaels drop to 9-42 on the year.
Stanford got things started in the bottom of the first when lead-off hitter Catalina Morris drew a walk. Leah Nelson hit her sixth homerun of the season to clear the bases. Jackie Rinehart tripled to centerfield to keep it going. Tricia Aggabao then singled to right, scoring Rinehart.
In the second, with two outs on the board, Morris doubled to centerfield. Lauren Lappin doubled to score Morris.
Rinehart singled to left in the bottom of the third. Shoney Hixson pinch ran for Rinehart and stole second. Aggabao singled to centerfield, scoring Hixson.
Aggabao singled to rightfield to start off the bottom of the fifth. An error by the third baseman put Heather Shook on first, moving Aggabao to second. Megan Bordelon walked to load the bases. Meghan Sickler was hit by a pitch as Aggabao scored on the play. Hoffman reached on a fielder's choice as Shook scored on another error by the third baseman.
Lauren Nydam (7-2) picked up the win in relief for Stanford, scattering one hit over four innings of work with four strikeouts. Starter Laura Severson pitched three shutout innings for the Cardinal as well.
Stanford is back in action this weekend when they travel to Seattle to take on #24 Washington at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 29.
