April 30, 2005
TUCSON, Ariz. - Right-hander Kevin Guyette allowed just two runs in 7 2/3 innings Saturday as the No. 9/10 Arizona Wildcats evened its Pac-10 Conference series with a 7-2 win over the No. 22/21 USC Trojans. Catcher Nick Hundley went 2-for-4 with three RBI, which included his 10th homer of the season with a two-run blast in the seventh.
The Wildcats (28-15, 11-3) scored three runs in the first off USC starter Jack Spradlin. Trevor Crowe led off with a double down the third base line, moved to third on a ground out by Brad Boyer and scored on an RBI single by Jeff Van Houten. Hundley hit an RBI single, followed by an RBI groundout from Chris Frey for the third run.
USC (27-14, 9-5) scored both runs with two outs, one in the second and fourth. Guyette (7-4) kept the Trojans off balance for most of the afternoon, retiring 18 of 23 batters during one stretch. Spradlin (4-2) could not get out of the seventh innings as Hundley homered off reliever Jon Williams as part of a three-run seventh.
Five different Wildcats had two hits each as part of a 13-hit afternoon, one day after Arizona collected just three hits against Ian Kennedy and Richard Aguilar in a 13-0 shutout. The Wildcats also snapped a season-long four-game losing streak.
