Philadelphia, PA -
The women's 4x100m relay finished eighth at the 2005 Penn Relays. After racing 45.33 in the prelims to beat out Texas and Stanford for a spot in the Championship of America final today, the women fell behind right away after a hand-off betweenlead-off legOsarhiemen Omwanghe and second leg Tiffany Johnson went awry. The bobble caused a deficit the Bears could not make-up as they came in at 45.33, the exacxt same time they ran in the heats.
The women's sprint medley looked as though it had an excellent chance at winning after seniorShannan Hawes and juniorAntonette Carter split 23.4 and 23.3 to put freshman Alysia Johnson right in the thick of it as she split the 400m leg at 54.3 before giving the baton to senior Chloe Jarvis for the 800m leg. Unfortunately Jarvis suffered an asthma attackbut was able tofinishher leg, coming in at 3:54.56 for seventh place behind South Carolina.
In the individual events Carter ran 11.78 in the 100m to qualify for Saturday's finals. Hawes just missed qualifying with atime of 12.07.
