PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State University 2004 women's and men's cross country teams have received national recognition for academics, Head Coach Jason Drake said Wednesday.
The Cougar women team's 3.58 grade point average was ninth best nationally among the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association Academic All American Teams. Of the Pac-10 schools honored, WSU was second only to the newly formed Oregon State women's team that had a 3.598 GPA.
The United States Cross Country Coaches Association selected nineteen men's teams who had a team grade point average of 3.25 or higher and honored them as All-Academic Cross Country Teams with Distinction. WSU men's team was among the 29 teams with GPA's of 3.00 or higher to be selected as All-Academic Cross Country Teams. The Cougars' 3.18 GPA was tied for eighth best on this list. Washington State was the only Pac-10 team on either national All-Academic team lists for men.
