Lisa Allen Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week
May 3, 2005
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State junior catcher Lisa Allen has been named Pacific-10 Conference Softball Player of the Week for April 26-May 2, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced on Tuesday.
Allen, from Canby, Ore., finished the week with a team-leading .462 batting average (6-for-13), including two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored, a double, and a 1.000 slugging percentage.
In dramatic fashion, she belted a sixth inning two-out full-count bases loaded pitch over the centerfield fence for her first grand slam and 10th home run of the year, providing all of the scoring as Oregon State upset No. 2 ranked Arizona, 4-0, on May 1, in Corvallis for the first time since 1989. The victory also marked the first time in program history that the Beavers won the season series against the Wildcats and guaranteed Oregon State its first ever finish over .500 in Pac-10 play.
Earlier in the week, Allen went 3-for-5 with a home run in a double-header against Portland State on April 27. She also picked up one of just three OSU hits against Arizona State on April 29.
The weekly award marks Oregon State's 28th all-time selection and is the sixth this season - the most ever for the Beavers in a single year.
No. 8 ranked Oregon State heads to the Bay Area this week, facing No. 3 ranked University of California on Friday, before battling No. 4 ranked Stanford on Saturday and Sunday. All three games are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
