Following a grueling five-game week that included a 24-hour trip to Seattle and four games against the Bay Area schools in three days, UCLA returns to the road this weekend for a 'normal' Pac-10 week that will include a single game at Arizona on Friday and single games at Arizona State on Saturday and Sunday. Friday's game will be televised live on ESPNU, the eighth and final scheduled regular season televised game for the Bruins.

Short Trip to Seattle Ends With Bruin Loss
UCLA left 12 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the third and fourth innings in a 3-2 loss at Washington on April 27. UCLA trailed 3-0 when a two-run RBI single by Kristen Dedmon brought the Bruins within one run. Krista Colburn followed with a double, giving the Bruins two runners in scoring position with one out, but the Bruins were unable to tie the game, eventually losing by a 3-2 margin.

Four-Game Homestand Yields One Win
The Bay Area home weekend was extended by one game when UCLA's Apr. 8 contest with the Cardinal was rained out at Stanford. The make-up for that game, which took place on Sunday morning at Easton Stadium, would prove to be the Bruins lone victory of the week.

California opened the weekend with a Friday game at UCLA, but the Bruins capitalized on a two-run first inning home run by Caitlin Benyi to take an early lead. The Golden Bears countered with three runs of their own in the second inning and the Bruin bats were unable to answer, allowing Cal to take home the 3-2 victory.

Saturday started on a sour note for UCLA, as the Bruins surrendered five runs in the first and two in the second inning to spot Stanford a 7-0 lead after two complete innings. UCLA went on to bat around in the third, accumulating RBI hits from Benyi, Kristen Dedmon, Lisa Dodd and a two-RBI single by Dedmon to climb within two runs at 7-5. Unfortunately, both teams bats went silent after the third inning, leading to a 7-5 final.

Sunday was a busy day in front of a packed Easton Stadium crowd. The Apr. 8 rain-out was made up in an 11 am contest, and the Bruin offense was ready for the early start. A five-run third inning featured a two-RBI single by Jodie Legaspi and a three-run home run by Dedmon to give the Bruins a 5-0 lead. UCLA put itself in position for a run-rule victory in the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Benyi and RBI singles from Emily Zaplatosch and Legaspi. Dodd earned the three-hit shutout for her seventh win of the year.

In the regularly scheduled game, UCLA went up 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning on consecutive RBI singles from Tara Henry, Benyi and Legaspi, but the Cardinal stormed back for two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh for the 5-3 win.
