May 4, 2005

The No. 21-ranked USC men's tennis team (11-12) will travel to Seattle to face SMU (15-12) at 10 a.m. on May 13 in a first-round match in the 64-team NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships, the NCAA announced today (May 4).

If they win, the Trojans would face the winner of host Washington's (18-4) first-round match versus Oral Roberts (13-12) in the second round on May 14. The winner of that 2 p.m. match would advance to the Round of 16 on May 21 at host Texas A&M's George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. Play there will continue to the championship on May 24.

USC head coach Peter Smith's Trojans are led by sophomore Jamil Al-Agba (ranked 19th nationally) and seniors Drew Hoskins (No. 55) and Johan Berg (No. 93).

USC's men have won 16 NCAA team championships (second most in the nation), most recently in 2002. This marks the 29th consecutive year the Trojan men have received an NCAA postseason bid.

Last year, Troy advanced to the NCAA semifinals before falling to eventual NCAA champion Baylor.

Individual singles and doubles NCAA tournament selections will be announced on May 5.
