May 4, 2005
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Pacific-10 Conference outdoor track and field athlete of the week honors for the week of April 25-May 1:
Men's Track Co-Athletes of the Week: IAN DOBSON, Stanford (Sr., Klamath Falls, Ore.). Dobson ran the fastest 10,000 meters by an American this year with a school record time of 27:59.72 at the Cardinal Invitational. He beat his previous best of 28:15.66 and eclipsed the school record of 28:08.12 by Brad Hauser in 1998. It's the fifth-best mark alltime in the Pac-10 and just the fifth Pac-10 athlete to break the 28-minute barrier. STEVEN KOEHNEMANN, DOMENIK PETERSON, SETH AMOO, KELVIN LOVE, Arizona State. The quartet of Koehnemann (So., Chandler, Ariz.), Peterson (So., Jefferson City, Mo.), Amoo (Sr., Palmdale, Calif.) and Love (Fr., Waco, Texas) combined to clock a 38.71 in the 4x100-relay at the Double Dual with Arizona and Northern Arizona. Their time is a school record, bettering the 26-year old mark of 38.78 set in 1979. Currently, their time is the fastest in the collegiate ranks and third fastest in the world. It also ranks as the fifth-fastest time in Pac-10 history.
Men's Field Athlete of the Week: JESSE WILLIAMS, USC (Jr., Raleigh, N.C.). In the USC/UCLA Dual Meet, Williams established a meet record with a conference-leading mark of 7-5 in the high jump.
Women's Track Athlete of the Week: MONIQUE HENDERSON, UCLA (Sr., San Diego, Calif.). Henderson competed in four events at the USC/UCLA Dual Meet. She won the 200m in a season-best and NCAA Regional qualifying 22.86 (stadium record, Pac-10 leader, No. 4 on the current collegiate chart) and the 400m in a season-opening and NCAA Regional Qualifying 50.91 (meet record, stadium record, No. 1 time on the current world list). She anchored both of UCLA's second-place relays - 4X100m (45.06)/4X400m (season-best 3:43.03).
Women's Field Athlete of the Week: JESSICA PRESSLEY, Arizona State (Fr., Elk Grove, Calif.). Pressley won the hammer throw at the Double Dual with Arizona and Northern Arizona with a school and meet record toss of 63.51 (208-04). It's the second-best toss this season in the Pac-10. 2005
