Cardinal Softball Defeat No. 25 Oregon 5-1

Stanford, Calif. - Junior Catalina Morris went 3-for-4 with two runs scored as the fifth-ranked Stanford softball team defeated No. 25 Oregon, 5-1, this evening at Boyd and Jill Smith Family Stadium. The Cardinal improve to 38-11, 11-5 in the Pac-10 while the Ducks drop to 32-20, 5-11 in league action.
Stanford picked up a run in the second to get things started for the Cardinal. Jackie Rinehart led off the inning with an infield single, advancing to second on an error by the pitcher. Erin Howe then walked to put runners at first and second. Meghan Sickler laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving the runners over. Rinehart scored on a groundout by Tricia Aggabao.
The Cardinal scored another run in the third as Catalina Morris led off the inning with a double to leftfield. She advanced to third on a groundout by Michelle Smith then scored on a single by Leah Nelson.
Stanford struck again in the fifth as Morris reached base on a bunt single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Smith walked to put runners at first and second. Nelson, came up big again with a single leftfield to score Morris. Rinehart singled to left while Smith came home on an error by the leftfielder.
With two outs in the sixth inning, Anna Beardman walked then stole second. Morris single to leftfield as Beardman scored on an error by the leftfielder to make the score 5-0.
Oregon picked up a run in the top of the seventh.
Becky McCullough (17-3) recorded the win in the circle for Stanford, allowing one run on seven hits in seven innings of work with five strikeout. Amy Harris (15-11) took the loss for the Ducks , allowing four runs on seven hits in five innings of work.
Stanford is back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on No. 6 Oregon State at 1 p.m. at Smith Family Stadium.
