Cardinal Women Tied For Ninth Heading Into Final Round Of NCAA West Regional

Las Cruces, N.M. - The Stanford women's golf team shot a 301 on the second day of competition at the NCAA West Regional in Las Cruces, N.M. Their two-round total of 607 puts them in a tie for ninth heading into tomorrow's final round. Twenty-six mph winds slowed down the field, as Southern California (19-over-par 595) took over the lead after the second round at the New Mexico State University Golf Course.
Rounding out the top five teams are Tennessee (601), Georgia (602), UCLA (603), California (603) and Brigham Young (603). Oklahoma State and Oregon are tied for seventh (605) while Washington State and Stanford are tied for ninth (607).
Cardinal Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana moved up into a tie for 24th individually, with a 151 (76-75). Teammate Kelly Husted is tied for 32nd overall after carding a one-under par 71 today for a two-day total of 152 (81-71). Stephanie Lue is tied for 49th with a 154 (79-75) while Lauren Todd is tied for 68th (77-80--157). Senior Wendra Liang is tied for 76th (74-84) with a 158.
USC's Dewi Schreefel shot a 1-under-par 71 to jump from 11th to second with even par-144 and move the Lady Trojans up to first after starting the day in second. California's Sophia Sheridan leads the field with 2-under-par 142, after shooting 1-over-par 73 in the second round Friday.
Long Beach State's Kay Hoey (1-over-par 145), Johnna Nealy of Oregon (2-over-par 146) and Tennessee's Violeta Retamoza (2-over-par 146) round out the top-five.
The eighth and final team spot to advance to Nationals is up in the air, as Oklahoma State and Oregon are tied at seventh with 29-over-par 605 and Washington State and Stanford trail closely, by two strokes, in ninth at 31-over-par 607.
The top-two individuals from non-advancing teams after the final round Saturday move on to Nationals, as well as the top-eight teams.
The 2005 NCAA Division I West Regional concludes Saturday, May 7, with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.
