Thorson, No. 2 California Blank No. 25 Oregon, 1-0
May 7, 2005
BERKELEY - A one-hitter from Kristina Thorson and a first-inning, RBI-single from first baseman Julie Meyer lifted the No. 2 California softball team past No. 25 Oregon Saturday at Levine-Fricke Field, 1-0.
Thorson didn't allow a runner past first base, faced just one batter over the minimum and struck out six in improving to 20-4 on the season. Thorson hasn't allowed a run in her last 30.1 innings of work dating back to April 16.
The Ducks lone hit on the afternoon was a slow grounder from shortstop Breanne Sabol to the right side of the infield. Sabol was thrown out later in the inning attempting to steal second base by Cal catcher Haley Woods.
Cal chalked up the only run it needed off of Oregon starter Amy Harris (15-12) in the first. Following back-to-back, two-out singles by Woods and second baseman Jessica Pamanian, Meyer singled to center field. Woods beat the throw to catcher Ashley Richards with a head-first slide into home plate.
Cal collected six hits on the afternoon with Pamanian going 2-for-3.
With the victory, the Bears (43-10 overall, 10-7 Pac-10) took the season series from Oregon, following a 6-5 Cal victory April 15 in Eugene, Ore. The two teams complete the series Sunday at Levine-Fricke Field at 1 p.m.
