May 7, 2005
The No. 14 USC women's golf squad, led by sophomore Catalina Marin's one-over 73 and a pair of 74s by freshman Dewi-Claire Schreefel and sophomore Veronica Felibert, qualified for the NCAA Championships later this month after finishing fourth after the final round of the 2005 NCAA West Regional at the University Golf Course in La Cruces, N.M., on Saturday (May 7).
The Women of Troy, who began the day in first, wrapped up the three-day tournament with a nine-over 297, easily within the top eight, which is necessary to advance into the national field.
Tennessee and UCLA, which began the day six and seven shots behind USC, respectively, finished tied for first with 889 while Cal finished at 891. The Women of Troy checked in one shot back at 892.
Schreefel, who began the final round in second, finished tied for third with a two-over 218. Senior Irene Cho shot a four-over 76 for the second straight day and was the next highest USC finisher at 224.
Felibert's 74 was her best of the tournament and left her at 227 while junior Tanya Dergal's second 78 in a row gave her a 228. Marin's Saturday team-best 73 on the final day gave her a 232.
USC will take part in the 24-team NCAA Championships May 17-20 in Sunriver, Ore.
