May 7, 2005

Eugene, Ore. - - The Oregon State track team ran strong Saturday evening at the Oregon Twilight accumulating a total of five personal records and adding a new school event record.

'The girls stepped up really well tonight, it was a great meet and we had some great running,' OSU head coach Kelly Sullivan said. 'It was a great atmosphere, the crowd and the meet definitely contributed to our results.

Lauren Denfeld made OSU track history when she finished third in the women's steeple with a time of 11:28.38. Denfeld is the first athlete to compete in the event in school history, thereby giving her the school record.

'She ran really well in the steeple, much faster than I expected,' OSU head coach Kelly Sullivan said.

Jean-Mari Peterson led the Beavers with a 3rd place finish in the 1500. Her time of 4:38.80 was a personal record in the event by more than six seconds and moves her to 5th all-time at OSU in the event.

Also of note was the consecutive finishes of Ashley Francis, Ashley Younce, and Nicole Crawford. The three runners finished 9th, 10th, 11th in the 3000 and each finished with personal records in the event.

'I am overall very pleased with how we ran tonight,' Sullivan said. 'It was a good precursor to running into the Pac-10's.'
