Alice Barnes and Frankie Brennan Earn ITA Regional Honors

Stanford, Calif. - Cardinal junior Alice Barnes was named the 2005 recipient of the Northwest Region ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship, while Stanford assistant coach Frankie Brennan was honored as the Northwest Region ITA Assistant Coach of the Year. The national winner for both awards will be announced on May 22 in Athens, Ga.
Barnes, who currently owns the No. 20 ranking in the ITA poll, will help the Cardinal compete for the 2005 NCAA Championship and will also represent Stanford in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships in Athens, Ga. Barnes collected three doubles titles this season, winning the ITA Northwest Regional and the Pac-10 Indoors Championship with Erin Burdette and the Pac-10 Championship in Ojai with Anne Yelsey. Barnes also collected runner-up finishes in singles action at the conference championship last month and at the ITA Northwest Regional in the fall. Barnes has won 28 matches this season, including 21 of her last 25.
Brennan, in his tenth year as an assistant on The Farm, helped guide the Cardinal to a 21-0 record with a 7-0 mark in Pac-10 play. Over the past decade, Brennan has helped Stanford to a 273-12 record, 10-straight Pac-10 titles and five NCAA Championships.
The Cardinal will be in action this weekend, as Stanford hosts Army, Fresno State and Oregon in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament at the Taube Tennis Center.
