May 10, 2005

TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Former Arizona State University outfielder Andre Ethier is off to a torrid start in his third professional season with the Double-A Midland RockHounds and has been ranked No. 4 on Baseball America's weekly Prospect Hot Sheet.

Ethier (Phoenix, Ariz.) is hitting .420 (50-for-119) while leading the Texas League in batting, home runs (7), run scored (30), RBI (30), hits (50) and slugging (.697). The St. Mary's product is especially hot in nine games in the month of May, going 19-for-37 (.514) with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBI. Saving his best for when it counts, Ethier is an amazing 31-for-60 (.517) with runners on base and each of his seven home runs have come with men on base.

The two-time All-Pac-10 selection was the second round draft choice of the Oakland Athletics in 2003. Ethier combined to hit .371 (164-for-442) with 14 home runs in 116 career games in the Maroon and Gold.

Other Sun Devils enjoying solid starts to the 2005 professional season include Dustin Pedroia of the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs (.352), Jeremy West of the Sea Dogs (.324) and Mitch Jones of the Triple-A Columbus Clippers (.345, 9 HR).
