Cal Men Look to Win Pac-10 Title

This Week: The No. 2 Golden Bears head to Rancho Cordova for the Pac-10 Championships held at Lake Natoma. The varsity eight, second varsity eight and freshman eight all went undefeated during the regular season and look to continue their dominance against a field of Pac-10 foes. Last year, the varsity eight finished second behind Washington and ahead of Oregon State, Stanford, UC Davis and Santa Clara.
The Competition: In the first round, the Bears' varsity eight will face one team ranked in the Top 20 by USRowing Collegiate Poll: No. 10 Oregon State. The varsity eight will also face UC Davis, USC and Sacramento State. Other ranked teams in the field include No. 4 Washington and No. 5 Stanford.

Big Row Recap (4/30/05): The varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and freshman four all posted wins at Redwood Shores. In the varsity eight race, Cal and Stanford were tied at 1:22.78 after the first 500 meters. But by the halfway point, the Bears were up nearly two seconds and held a nearly four-second advantage through 1500 meters. At the finish, Cal won by a 5:44.78 to 5:51.03 margin. The varsity eight won its fifteenth consecutive Schwabacher Cup, the trophy awarded to the winner of the annual dual race between Cal and Stanford.
