SAN DIEGO - Freshman outfielder Roberto Lopez (La Mesa/Rancho Bernardo HS) broke a 5-5 tie Tuesday in the seventh with a three-run homer, his first collegiate home run, as the No. 24/23 USC Trojans defeated the San Diego State Aztecs in nonconference action. The Aztecs loaded the bases in the second and took a 2-0 lead on a two-run single by Quintin Berry. Jordan Swaydan was thrown out trying to reach third by Lopez. The Trojans tied it in the third with one out when Matt Cusick and Hart both singled. Clement brought both home with a two-run double to left center.
SDSU led off the fourth by loading the bases again, eventually scoring three runs. Sam Pepper hit an RBI groundout to score Lance Zawadzki, followed by an infield single from Berry. USC's Anthony Encinas replaced Spradlin, allowed a single to load the bases again to shortstop James Guerrero and walked Brock Ungricht for the third run.

In the Trojans' fifth, Hart hit an RBI double down the left field line and Baron Frost singled home Hart to cut the SDSU lead to 5-4. Berry had a chance again in the SDSU fifth with the bases loaded and two outs, but he lined out to left. On the night, Berry went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Aztecs.
The Trojans had runners at first and second in the seventh when pinch hitter Zack Kalter tied the game with a single up the middle. Lopez then took the count to 2-2 before belting a long home run to left. USC sent 11 batters to the plate in the seventh.
