Chris Minaker And Mark Romanczuk Honored On District 8 All-Academic Teams

Eugene, Ore. - Stanford junior infielder Chris Minaker and junior lefthanded pitcher Mark Romanczuk have been named to 2005 ESPN The Magazine District 8 All-Academic Baseball Teams released Thursday. Minaker, a sociology major with a 3.73 GPA in his Sociology Major, was a First Team choice. Romanczuk picked up a spot on the Second Team with a 3.48 GPA in Economics.
On the field, Minaker leads the club this season in runs scored (42), doubles (16), at bats (187) and assists (142, #3 Pac-10). He also ranks second on the squad in stolen bases (7) and has added 15 multiple-hit games, while starting all 45 contests and playing every inning at shortstop.
Romanczuk has a 5-4 record and a 4.31 ERA and recording two of the team's three complete games, including his first career and the team's only complete game shutout this season. He leads the club in strikeouts (66, #10 Pac-10) and starts (13, #6T Pac-10, co-leader), while ranking second in innings pitched (85.2 IP, #5 Pac-10). In his career, he has won 28 career games at Stanford to rank tied for sixth on the school's all-time list with Brian Mignano (1979-82) and is just nine victories behind all-time school leader Jeff Ballard's 37 from 1982-85.
Neither player had earned District 8 All-Academic honors before but both were First Team Pac-10 All-Academic choices in their sophomore seasons. Romanczuk was also an honorable mention Pac-10 All-Academic selection as a freshman.
No. 21 Stanford (27-18, 8-7 Pac-10) begins a three-game home Pac-10 series against UCLA (12-33, 1-14 Pac-10 this Friday-Sunday, May 13-15 (6 pm, 1 pm, 1 pm, PT).
